Field Trips & Community Based Learning

Connecting Classrooms to the Community

Real-world experiences that build confidence and skills.

At The Oberle Academy, we believe some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom. Our Field Trips and Community-Based Learning experiences are designed to extend academic and life skills into real-world settings—whether through immersive outings, hands-on job training, or connections with local organizations. These programs help students apply what they’ve learned, explore new environments, and build the confidence and independence they need for life beyond school. It’s learning with purpose, grounded in experience.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Field Trips

At The Oberle Academy, field trips are more than just outings—they’re purposeful extensions of our curriculum designed to enrich classroom learning through real-world experiences. Each trip is thoughtfully planned with clear educational goals, ensuring students connect what they learn in school to the world around them.

Safety is our top priority. All trips are led by trained staff certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, and medication management, so families can feel confident their students are well-supported. Participation requires a signed permission slip and consistent demonstration of responsible behavior, ensuring a safe and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Education for Employment (EFE)

At The Oberle Academy, students gain valuable real-world experience through our Education for Employment (EFE) program—designed to bridge classroom learning with career readiness. Through a progressive series of classes, students explore potential career paths starting with Introduction to the World of Work, then move into community-based placements where they apply skills in real job settings. EFE turns learning into action—building confidence, strengthening work ethic, and preparing students for life after graduation.

Students participate in hands-on work experiences, build their résumés, and receive both mentoring and transportation to and from their job sites. Interest inventories and skill-building activities help guide their paths, and many students are eligible to receive a stipend for their efforts—rewarding their growth and responsibility. EFE is more than career prep; it’s a confidence-building journey toward greater independence and future success.
